We're
located in the quiet, rural community of Ice Lake on beautiful Manitoulin Island. We make a wide selection of jams and jellies that we create from a base of either wild or naturally sourced fruits and herbs growing right here on the Island. Our unique offering is our popular basil jellies as well as wild pear, raspberry, strawberry, wild chokecherry, crabapple, wild apple and hawberry. We now have a line of basil vinegars that complement our basil jellies. Toss them with a bit of olive oil and some honey or jelly and they are delicious on salads or steamed vegetables. We also offer preserves from our garden along with specialty herbal oils and bath salts from our wonderful herbal harvest. Specializing in premium organic lettuce, we supply some local restaurants as well as our loyal customers at the Manitoulin Farmers’ Markets with greens from May until October. The most frequently asked question is how we make the Basil Jellies. Our Garden GOLDEN BASIL JELLY
begins with a base of fresh Genovese Basil. It is the basil to which we are most accustomed. It's the "pesto" basil and
most likely the one you use in sauces and salads. Our Garden RUBY BASIL JELLY is created from two varieties of purple leafed basil with just a hint of... well, we're not telling. The distinctive colour is all natural. We never add artificial colour or flavour to any of our products. Our Garden GARNET BASIL JELLY is created from Thai basil and it has a hint of spice that makes it a great accompaniment to Indian or Asian cooking. The names come from the colours of the jellies as they resemble the precious gems and metals of the same colour.
Another common question is how to use our Basil Jellies. Our Garden Basil Jellies are perfect on a party tray with crackers and cheese, as a glaze on pork, chicken, or fish and great as a sandwich spread - even on toast. The Garnet Basil Jelly goes great with Indian or Asian cuisine and the Ruby Basil Jelly makes a great mix as a substitute for sugar in cranberry sauce.
The newest addition to our list of products is the child’s book, The Winter Window. The paintings by James Colville, a young native artist and the poetry by Linda weave a lovely picture of the beauty of nature in our garden under the crab-apple tree.
